Set of six early 19th century Regency mahogany antique dining chairs. This set of chairs have some very nice Regency specific features such as sabre legs which are reeded on the front and upper surfaces. The back rail has the classic rope twist which alludes to the recent success of the British Navy at the battle of the Nile and the subsequent definitive defeat by the British Army of Napoleon at Waterloo. These chairs are made of good timber, they are precisely carved and it is easy to change the leather fabric on the drop in seats. The sabre legs are a nice feature which echo the Klismos chair and similar designs found in images found at the excavations of the time in Italy and Greece.
